Word Walk

Published on April 03, 2008 at 2:00am

The Writers Place needs to pay the bills, y'all, because being the destination for KC's literati as well as the more passively literate doesn't come cheap. Today, the organization that has brought you your favorite literary events gratis is seeking your support. The Walk for Words fundraiser aims to generate revenue to continue sponsoring workshops, readings, retreats, and appearances by celebrated authors. You can join in the walk from the Writers Place (3607 Pennsylvania) to the Thomas Hart Benton home and back for a $20 registration fee. Those who participate get a shot at the open mic, a free Freedom of Speech T-shirt and a chance to win prizes. The event is part of a series with a decidedly beatnik theme, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the publication of Jack Kerouac's On the Road. The walk begins at 10 a.m. Call 816-753-1090 for more information. http://www.writersplace.org/
